Heavenly Father,

 

We are thankful for the blessings you have bestowed upon America since her founding, and we pray to you today that you look down upon us with compassion and mercy in this trying time. 

 

We pray that you will bring unity among neighbors and heal our divisions.

 

May our differences be dwarfed by your love for us.

 

We pray that those who are lost will be filled with your love and forgiveness.

 

May you heal their souls and deliver them from the darkness to which they have succumbed. 

 

We pray for the leaders who govern, that they will follow your word and seek your guidance.

 

May you deliver us from the wretched evil of tyranny that so darkly looms over us.

 

And Lord, we pray for peace and salvation. 

 

We lift up your name, and praise your son as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. 

 

In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

 

While our country is so bitterly divided over politics and our airwaves are full of negative attack ads,  I hope this prayer brings you the same peace and hope it did for me.
